What is Country Music?
Country music is nothing but an amalgam of some of the most popular forms of music which gets its roots from traditional folk music in the South. It is a catch-all for the bluegrass, Nashville sound combined with western ballads, honky tonk, cajun, swing, rockabilly, Appalachian, and jug band music.
There are a lot of different types of music out there and there are many different bands like the Hi-Fly Rangers who bring their own unique style to the genre. Some of the most popular country singers include Willie Nelson, Bob Wills, and George Strait. Everyone is mesmerised when these guys start singing. There are so many different songs which have been adapted to suit the style of country music, and while some were good, others were not so good. But, one thing is for sure, every single version will get your feet tapping.
If you go back to the history books, you will find that country music took off in 1924, with Vernon Dalhart’s song, The Wreck of Old 97. At the time, singers from other genres like Fiddling John Carson, Riley Pucket, and Charlie Poole, joined in on the country scene and popularised the music further. Till this day, the popularity of country music continues growing and shows no signs of slowing down.
As for the greats, country music has its fair share of both female and male singers who have contributed quite a bit to the popularity of this genre over the years. Some of the well-known names include Mary Chapin, Johnny Cash, Dixie Chicks, Carpenter, Patty Loveless, Tim McGraw, Lonestar, Shania Twain, and many more.
No matter what type of music you like, you’re sure to have heard at least one or two of these artists. So, why not give country music a real chance? It’s not going to disappoint you, that’s for sure.
